Military Science Minor

Admission into the Military Science Minor program is by permission of the Department Chairperson following a special interview concerning eligibility and entry requirements. Interested students should make arrangement for an interview as early as possible, but not later than the second semester of their sophomore year. Students pursuing a commission in the U.S. Army are not required to complete the minor program of study.

Program Requirements

A total of 35 hours are required to complete the Military Science Minor.

Prerequisites (4 hrs):

  • Military Science 111 (2 credit hours) and Military Science 112 (2 credit hours)
  • Or satisfactory completion of the Army ROTC Basic Course
  • Or proficiency as approved by the Military Science Department Chairperson

Required MSC Courses (12 hrs and these courses are typically only available to contracted cadets. If you are not contracted you must have Department Consent from the Department Chair.):

  • Military Science 220 (3 credit hours)
  • Military Science 221 (3 credit hours)
  • Military Science 240 (3 credit hours)
  • Military Science 241 (3 credit hours)

Other courses (19 hrs):

  • History (3 hrs): HIS 278 (This course will require an override if you are not a History Major. There is a limited number of overrides allowed. If you are not a HIS major, speak in person to MSC Office Administrator to request one.)
  • Written Communications (3 hrs): ENG 145, 247, or 249
  • Human Behavior (3 hrs): PSY 110, 111; or SOC 106
  • Computer Literacy (3 hrs): ITK 140, 150, or 155
  • Math Reasoning (3 hrs): MAT 113, 120, or 121
  • Physical Education (4 hrs): MSC 146 (formerly listed as KNR 146)
